4 Reasons To Set Off On A Trek In The Himalayas

There are people who spend their vacations lounging by pools and dining at expensive restaurants. And then there are the adventurers — people who spend their free time climbing, hiking, and trekking. If you fall into the second camp, or if you want to fall into the second camp, one adventure that is worth taking is a trek in the Himalayas. Here are four reasons why this adventure can be life-changing and memorable.

1. You'll see how others live.

When you venture off into the wilderness, it is typically to get away from people and enjoy time away from civilization. This is somewhat true of a trek in the Himalayas; you will certainly be spending time away from society. However, most treks are led by sherpas, or guides, and learning how the sherpas live and earn money by guiding adventurers and trekkers in this region is really eye-opening. Trekking in the Himalayas is both a nature experience and a cultural one.

2. You'll find yourself in the challenge.

Often, you have to really challenge yourself and push past your limits to find yourself and realize what you are capable of. This will happen in the Himalayas. Most treks last multiple days and cover long mileage. You'll wake up tired in the morning, but somehow you will keep pushing on toward your goal. In the end, you will emerge stronger and with a better idea of what you can accomplish when you set your mind to it.

3. You'll bond with friends.

Most treks are meant to be taken in small groups. You can have a small group of friends come with you, or you can join another group of trekkers who don't know each other. Regardless of where you start out at the beginning of the adventure, you could end the experience as close friends. Nothing brings people together like facing challenges together.

4. The terrain is varied and unbelievable.

You might picture the Himalayas as consisting of bald, open mountain faces, but that is only a small part of the region. There are also quiet wooded areas, open plains, and forested mountainsides. There are few other treks upon which you can discover such vast terrain. Observing the many species of plants and animals along the way will increase your appreciation for nature.

If you're the adventurous sort or would like to become the adventurous sort, setting off on a Himalayan trek is one possibility. Enjoy!
